Estelle Foster is the Executive Director of The Pesticide Awareness and Alternatives Coalition (PAAC), a non-profit, environmental group based in Santa Barbara, California, who have been credited for making over 40 city parks free of toxic pesticides. They have also produced five annual California Organic Festivals, and published more than 25,000 copies of Organic Resource Guides, in both English and Spanish.
Estelle and PAAC have been honored with awards and accolades from City Mayors and Councils, California State Assembly members and California State Superintendent of Schools. They are recognized as a voice for the community as advocates for public policy change; and have been a major force in the creation of the Integrated Pest Management Advisory Committee for the City of Santa Barbara.
While Vice President of the Small Wilderness Area Preserve (SWAP), Estelle helped to preserve Santa Barbara County’s last 70-acre, coastal bluff as a semi-wilderness area.
She was appointed and served as Santa Barbara County's Human Rights Commissioner. And was also instrumental in the creation of the Integrated Pest Management Focus Group for both the City and County of Santa Barbara.
Estelle also served on the panel to select the Agricultural Department Commissioner; developed a conflict-resolution program for the City's schools, and trained interning teachers.
Estelle has worked to create funding and public relations for environmental causes; and has spoken before dozens of groups, and on the radio and television. She is married to John Foster, professional educator and consultant on horticulture and sustainable living practices; and they have “organically” raised two beautiful daughters.
